Why this exists.

I'm Eric Page. After 20 years as an entrepreneur and endurance athlete, Long COVID brought me to my knees. My heart rate jumped from 48 to 140 just from standing up. I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs.

I built this because I was alone with it, terrified that my body was permanently broken. I know the fear and the sadness: the loss of the life that I knew and loved.

And underneath that, a shame I didn't expect. The feeling of not being able to contribute to my family. Of being vulnerable and needy when I wanted to be strong. That is the hardest part.

I built an early version of Planted about a month after I got sick and have used it every day since. It didn't replace my therapist or my community. It filled the gap between them, in the moments when I needed support most and no one was there.

“I'm not a good husband.”

I woke up believing chronic illness had made me a burden to my wife. My inner critic was comparing me to who I was before I got sick.

Through a morning conversation, I discovered she didn't fall in love with my tough exterior. She fell in love with the soft interior that illness was finally revealing more of.

I called my wife mid-session, in tears. First 10 out of 10 since getting sick.

“That feels really good.”

After years of pushing through everything, chronic illness forced a pause long enough for me to notice something: I'd been opening my heart to everyone but myself.

A session helped me feel compassion for myself for the first time in 51 years. Not understand it intellectually. Feel it in my body.
